Trod I think you make valid points but here is my thought on the matter (and i am probably wrong but..)
as I see it the whole point of being a winning/solid poker player is to put yourself in as many +EV situations as you can. You do this in a number of ways. The idea is you make your money by putting your money in when you are the favorite and tossing your hand away when you are not.
so taking a shot for all of my chips in a +EV situation doesn't bother me that much. Sure I prefer it to be better than 51/49 type of situation but I feel like good players get their money in when they are ahead and bad players don't
so in a sense you play to get yourself in situations where you are ahead and hammer the pot and hope they don't catch.
in this situation I think he is +EV to almost any hand except KQ of diamonds and maybe a set, so I say call
anyway I could be way off base, and as Kenny said you make a damn good point, but this is what I was thinking
