How Bad is My Play here?

Postby Allstar7 » Sun Aug 13, 2006 5:08 pm

My read on the villain was that he was super aggro and I was trying to trap him. Got the perfect flop and still managed to make a mess here...How bad is my play, what hand does the villain have and what was the outcome?

Use a hh converter.

Flop is ok, the board is relatively dry.

Raise more on the turn. The board has become very draw heavy.....river bet is ok if you are willing to fold ot a raise.

I'd reraise PF, as if he's really aggro, he could basically have ANYTHING, and JJ is a pretty tite 5-handed...

Bet the flop... bet the turn... Try to get it allin... River sucks...

If he's so aggro, maybe reraise PF and CR the flop pretty big...

Problem is check/calling so much you're not getting enough in the pot before you/he gets scared away...

I'd reraise preflop and either check raise on the flop or more likely lead out. As played, turn looks good and unfortunately you gotta puke on that river card. River bet looks ok but the moves prelfop and on the flop put you there.
^ No, I didn't limp with that hand.

how do you only manage to get half of villain's stack in by the river?

i would reraise PF. i refuse to respect minraises and you dont want to deal with overcards hitting and villain having something KT and winning.

as played i would bet the flop. if he raises, call the raise and CR the turn. if he calls the flop, lead turn again.

the way you played it....the turn CR is ok but it announces your hand and he should fold anything less than QJ.....anyone good at hand-reading may even fold QJ. if you're going to CR turn you should CR more.

then you wouldnt have this problem on the river. as played i think the block is good. its unlikely the river helped him and i think you're ahead.

Man UA you really nailed it here. Why you dont move up in stakes is beyond me.

This hand will serve as a lesson to me as to why its just assinine to softplay or slowplay anything against almost any villain. My read on this hand was that the villain was super aggro and fired 3 streets with nothing or anything. I softplayed preflop to trap him, got a dream flop and STOPPED BETTING? Why. I just called on the flop hoping that he would trap himself and commit all his chips on the turn. What I didnt plan on was that the board would go from perfect to meh to bad (which it did). If I lead the flop and get raised and push, I get his whole stack, as he had QJo. As played, I cost myself about $140 by softplaying then chickening out (a ten or 2 clubs was certainly NOT out of his range).

Sometime you play bad and win and still cost yourslef money - a funny game this poker.
