Someone used this move against me today and it worked very well against my overpair. I sometimes use this move if I suspect the preflop raiser has Aces or Kings and I will usually bet enough where a reraise of any size on the flop will pretty much comit my opponent to the pot. Example would be holding Jacks, Raising then being reraised min by a rock who would only reraise with bullets or Kings. Making a set and leading into him with a bet as above. What kind of defense can the player with the overpair have? without reads i cant see folding Aces without making a set just because someone bet into me on the flop. Thoughts. Its hard to defend... That's what makes it a good play... The only real way to get away is usually on a REALLY setty board... Like 973... He leads, you raise, he pushes... WTF can he have there... MUCH harder on a Q94 board, I think, when he could easily have AQ...

I bet into the board almost 100% of the time...an exception that I've been using with pretty good results over the last few weeks is heads up in a reraised pot (opponent put in a small reraise, which I call based on implied odds). I find that if I'm also OOP and he's short or medium stacked, a check raise all-in works every time, and he will call with his overpair all day long.

This play works pretty well against a lot of opoonents.

I saw a rock / TPA go broke with AA today after the table maniac raises 5xbb preflop, the rock flat calls AA otb, I call with 66 in the BB.

Flop comes KJ9 off, I check, maniac leads for a nearly full sized pot bet, rock calls, I fold.... turn is a 6 ($£%£$), maniac leads again, 14 into a 20 pot, rock pushes in, maniac insta calls and wins a massive pot with a set of J's... improved to a FH on the river.

At the time I am thinking to myself, wow, what a donk that 'rock' is... but having thought about it I am not sure I can get away from AA when the LAGGY player leads into you preflop and on the flop, he can so easily have top pair or an underpair, leading with a set when you know your opponent has the overpair is great, because most people just can't get away from the hand.

But the thing is, If I get check raised on the flop I think at least 50% of the time decent players can dump the hand, saving a lot of money...

I like leading with sets. Only time i see a problem is when the pot isnt that big and the opponent is fairly deep. To where if i lead into him and he raises and i push over the top it is an easy fold for villian. However, if you check-raise and villian re-raises you got him. Or if he just flat calls you can check the turn, and villian will bet then you can re-raise. Furthermore, the check-raises looks a lot more like you are playing back at a CB and could have nothing. While a lead-call looks like a TP or draw.

THe check-raise also gets some money outta villian when they missed the flop.
