I think I played this hand in a way that lights money on fire, and I need to know how to play it better.

I have just been at the table a couple of orbits. Villain has been extremely active, but this is the first time he's done a goofy isolation raise. I would say villain is running about 35/30 over the short sample. I have only had a couple of raise and take it's so I assume my image is standard. This is on Cake, so no data mined.

Hero bets $28. Villain raises to $56. Hero?

Turn:

Pot: $163. Hero checks. Villain bets $163.75 (half-pot). Hero folds.

I think the hand is a bit trickier/more akward than it should be because you didn't bet the flop hard enough. You shouldn't be harder to make the hand easier to play, but you should bet harder because it is correct here on that board texture against that villain and as an added bonus the hand will be easier to play.

As played yeah muck the turn unless you have a reason not to against this guy.

$163.75 is not half pot. I'm assuming he bet enough on the turn to put you all-in?

Also I'm not sure what a "goofy isolation raise" is. Do you mean where he raised just barely more than the minimum preflop? That is a very stinky raise size for him.

I think that up to now you played it consistent with you having a huge hand. A ton of people who had AA/AK in your spot will very very often bet half pot on the flop to try to sucker in the other guy and then flat call the minimum raise. Then when they catch a boat they can slowplay a street and see if the other guy feels like bluffing. So he should be scared unless he has AA/AK himself.

So IMO this is either a bluff (AT that just got counterfeited?) or AA/AK. I think even QJ or TT will normally slow way down when that turn card hits, expecting to only get calls from hands that beat them. Add in the goofy preflop raise (which shouldn't be AA/AK very often) and his line looks awful bluffy. I would probably talk myself into a call.
