Second hand is more worrying, he pushes, now at a higher level of play, am I going to put him on a set always and have to fold here? There are no flush draws, a possible straight, but not worth pushing for... The only other hand is JJ+, but such a strong push with such weak betting? At my stakes, I believe it's optimal to call, as the players are bs and can have complete random bs, but higher up should I fold?

These are both cold decks not much you can really do. The flush over flush I don't like the way you played it, checking the river is really bad you lost a ton of value because most of th hands that you can beat check behind. If you are super deep and think villain has a bigger flush you can check for pot control but if you are going to call the guys all in bet the river or push the turn.

The set over set hand just sucks but there is nothing you can do, there are certain situations where you are just destined to go broke in poker, set over set is one of them. The guy didn't raise preflop so its unlikely he has TT so 44 is the only hand that realistically beats you and you have everything else destroyed. Higher up you will almost never fold either so don't stress. Set over set like this is going to even out, just by the math you will be on the good end as much as the bad(unless you are Roy in which case you will be on the good end 95% of the time) and when you are on the good side villain almost always goes broke and when your on the bad end you go broke. Talk to Roy and have him explain to you the art of hitting one outers.
