Flop comes

Checked to me and I bet $6 into the $4 pot... mainly because the fuggin slider sucks and I get the popup menu from PA when I try to type it in. SB who has me covered calls.

Turn is

He checks and I check behind.

River is

He leads for $10 into the $16 pot, I call.

Thoughts?

Why are you giving him a free card on the turn when you almost certainly have the best hand and he is far more likely to be on a draw?

I'm sure this is an obvious question, but why not bet the turn? Your bet looks like a steal or protecting an 8. If you don't have the player tagged as a real squeezer, he probably doesn't have 8s full. The only hand that really scares me here is A2, but he could just as likely have an overpair or something like A8. Obviously it is your first hand, so you could be running into a real loose player from the sb, with any other deuce. Still, II say bet the turn for value and follow it up or call a bet on the river.

Free card for what? Flop is rainbow and not even a gutshot straight is possible. I doubt many players call a 1.5x pot size bet on a paired flop chasing backdoor draws.

The way I see it the only way he can suck out if he is behind is by hitting one of two remaining 8's. Since he played from the SB he could have pretty much anything, including a deuce. If he has a deuce he has me outkicked and I am drawing either dead or to 3 outs. If he has 88 I'm drawing to 1 out.

I don't see what I win from betting the turn. If he just has an 8 it makes it easy for him to fold it, if he has a deuce or boat I'll lose more money.

One thing I don't understand from some posters when responding to hands. Sometimes you fail to evaluate the situation at hand. What I mean by that is this and it alludes to exactly what Stone was talking about. When a few of you piped up and said you didn't want to give a free card because of the flush draw, I don't think it makes sense here that a player would call with a backdoor flush draw on the flop. I really cant think of any two cards that are clubs that will be calling in this hand.

he might just have 2 pair on the river but you can't take a chance in that spot to open the beting again
