I saw this hand yesterday and I thought about it for a while, especially about what I would do if I was the BB guy
ok so the hand went down like this
guy in EP makes it 8$ preflop, and both blinds call
my read on them is: SB a tight aggressive player very good imo, never seen him make stupid moves and i've played a lot with him, BB no read jet, and EP guy is LAG , and will make big moves on a draw, at least I took a few stacks from him that way even back when we played 50$ nl
so the flop comes 6 8 9 , all spades, pot is 24$
Blinds check, and the preflop raiser bets 27$
now, the SB guy , makes it 75$, BB thinks about it for a while and then goes all in for about 160$ , EP guy raises all in for the rest up to 200$ and SB calls
they show the cards as follows: SB Ks Js for a floped flush
BB has 57o for the floped str8, no flush draw
and EP has AA with the nut flush draw
nobody improves and SB takes down a very nice pot

now, how bad is the BB's move, would anybody do the same, I know I would not
I sure call if I'm the guy with the AA, but i can't understand the all in with the str8 with a bet and a 3x raise in front
would it make any sense to call the 75$ and wait for a non spade turn to make the move just in case nobody floped the flush?

cold calling not a good option, really you just have to beleive you're beaten in this situation. Which means you're drawing to a flush but your pot odds are horrible. He's impiled odds are bad as well, since his card is so obvious and a set will have a redraw.

one more thing:
When EP called the BB's all in, the big blind was not longer a large -EV. lucky him

Pretty bad play from BB. Even if you don't think someone has the flush already, you would put EP player on an overpair with flush draw, and SB on a set. They have a ton of outs, one of them could have the flush, you don't have a flush card. It's just a good place to fold.

Kenny, why are you saying the BB was no longer -EV? Without a flush card, he has no out vs the SB's KJs flush. Do you mean that he would be ahead if he could get SB out of the hand and be heads up vs EP's overpair, or if both players we on a flush draw or only had a set (no flush)?

Hes OOP with a horrible hand. He got a miracle flop and got stacked. I love it!

no, i fold too but i think the question more about the flop situation since folding preflop doesn't provide much of a solution.

also, i don't consider that a miracle flop for 75o. I consider that a pretty shitty flop.

I liked Harington's aproach on that as he gives his exaples, if you folded preflop that stupid hand, you would not get in a situation like the guy in this hand did
and even if he saw the flop, man that's such a bad move , even if you knew the other 2 guys were total idiots which they are not, you still have to respect the power behind those bets
it's one of those don't try this at home moves

anytime its a suited flop and i don't have any of that suit, no its not a miracle, its a disaster.
