Actually, I'm a fan of this line as well against your opponent in position here. He probably won't put you on the overpair, although with his river call, I'm thinking that he probably would be rated as a calling station. I really can't imagine him having anything bigger than AQ, QJ, or KJ in this spot(I think his PFR selection might be wider than Trod's assumption). I think he only calls here because he has you on a bluff and hit a piece of the flop.
So yeah, this play might have worked really well against a passive player who may want to play it safe postflop. Although, if he bet into you on the turn, I would have absolutely no idea where I was at and might be forced to lay it down(judging by his passive tendencies).
