Set on dry board (FR 100)

I'm UTG with 33 and limp. Folded around to SB, who completes, then BB (149--I have 122) makes it 4. I call, SB folds.

Flop K83r--as dry as it gets. BB bets 6 into the pot of 9, and I call.

Turn 4s, also making a flush draw. Raiser bets 13 into the pot of 21. I call.

River Td, pot 47. Now BB bets 35, and I push. He calls with TT...

Well, without being results-oriented, my river play surely isn't completely horrible, but I wonder if a call isn't better when you play a set this way.

AA and AK really shouldn't be betting the river (probably check-call for those hands, and that should give you adequate return on your set). So, either he's bluffing--in which case pushing is pointless because he obviously folds--or he should have something better than just TP or overpair.

Raise the turn for sure. He either has AA/AK/KQ and will call your raise or he has QQ-99 and he won't. But if he's on QQ-99 it's not like he's going to be putting in any decent amount on the river anyway ... unless he hits his 2-outer.

and why wouldnt AK or AA bet the river? villian put u on 333?

Raise the turn 4-5x his bet.

If he calls you know he has AA-AK, if he folds you took it down.

What I'm trying to work out the bugs with is sometimes playing sets/draws (depending on board and likely holdings for villain) very cally, like this, as long as an adequate bet keeps going in on all streets and sometimes (also with sets/draws) getting a decent pot together and then overbetting for stack.

I'm actually liking the overbet results up to now much better than the cally line, although I'm not sure whether just variance of results (such as here--and I do let him draw freely to his 2-outer to be sure) is influencing the manner of this play.

I can't argue with the solidity of calling flop, raising turn on this board or even with raising flop, repping AK (I really think calling flop, raising turn is the better "classic" line on this particular board). I'm just experimenting around with some different lines that may or may not increase EV--but I do feel like they at least have the value of being unusual, hence making it more difficult for villain to figure out what he's actually up against.
