Hi all,

In my quest to analyse my game and finding leaks I'm wondering if this is one. The push-with-a-draw.

BB is a major fish that has been calling pbs twice with bottompair etc.
UTG+1 is a rather stable player, but I wonder after this hand.

gnurulle posts Small Blind $1
BB posts Big Blind $2
Dealing cards
Your cards [7s] [9s]
UTG folds
UTG+1 raises $4
UTG+2 folds
Button folds
gnurulle calls $3
BB calls $2

[Min raise? Suited gapper. Time to mix it up. I call.]

Dealing Flop [5c] [6d] [4d]
gnurulle checks
BB bets $12
UTG+1 raises $48
gnurulle raises $188

[The sauce is going to go into the middle here anyway. I go allin to get UTG+1 out.
BB will call all day]

BB goes All-in $84.65
UTG+1 calls $140 [ouch]
Dealing Turn [5c] [6d] [4d] [8h]
Dealing River [5c] [6d] [4d] [8h] [Jh]
gnurulle shows Straight [7s] [9s]
BB shows Straight [2d] [3h]
UTG+1 shows [Ad] [As]
Winner is gnurulle with Straight [5c] [6d] [7s] [8h] [9s] $481.65

Hmmm. don't know. I can't really fault BBs postgame. The precall is somewhat fishy, but so was mine.

UTG+1 minraise AA? Then calling the allin? wtf?

You can't count on an opponent you don't know very, very well of folding aces, regardless of how scary the board may be or how the betting has been in front of him. I don't really like this play at all, UTG+1 could easily have been raising with SCs or a hand like [Ad] x[d] considering the short-handedness of the table, and something like [Ad] [7d] has you very much screwed; you could also be up against the made straight already (as you were, but if you were up against 78 then your 3 would be dead as an out)..

Even up against two random diamonds, say [Kd] [Jd] you're a 70-30 dog.. I can't say I like this push at all really and I think you got lucky to be up against the hands that you were, that being said, you still only had a 27% chance to win, so you got even more lucky to spike that 8..

I don't think this play has much folding equity either, especiallu since you think the BB will call all day..
Poker is silly.

It is not enough to be good at chess, you must also play well.

Somewhere in the world someone is training when you are not. When you race him, he will win.

I see three clean outs for you here. Reraising into a bet and raise on a straight draw especially against someone who will CALL ALL DAY seems completely insane to me. You don't seem to like money.

I just can't understand pushing in all your money on a draw when the BB will call any push. Shouldn't you wait until you have a solid made hand to get involved with that opponent? CS's should not be fooled with until you have some kind of a hand.

I'm not a huge fan of your PF call, but I'm tighter than normal and 6-max it might be more acceptable although I'd rather have the no gap SC's OOP.

UTG played badly...don't question it. Accept it and be happy...good players at my table make me sad.

i like the preflop call actually. However, your postflop play made me cringe. On a coordinated board, you pushed an open ended straight draw into a pot bet and big reraise. There are too many situations where you are drawing real thin and you obviously don't have the current best hand. I want there to be a good chance both will fold when I do this, otherwise, i fold. However, if this is your style, you better do this when you have a flush draw and the nuts too. Too swingy for my tastes.
