Like most things in poker the idea is good but its the application that usually sucks, if I raise for information I am doing it because I want a chance to win the pot now, when I think there is a good chance villain is weak but my hand is mediocre and I dont want to have to face a 2nd barrel on the turn/ river. Also in the metagame you dont want to just raise monsters otherwise its harder to get action when you make a monster and raise.

Personally I think the "Never go broke in an unraised pot," is the worst advice and most overused stupid poker advice. Based on this advice I have the board is I should fold to an all in because it is awful poker to go broke in an unraised pot and the all in player could have the bigger straight flush.

Xaston my post was intended to be over the top to make a point. The don't go broke in a raised pot is stupid, if you get all your money in with the best hand does it really matter what the preflop actions is? Your example it true to some extent though there are situations in an unraised pot where I am 100% happy to get all my chips all in with bottom 2 and be very confident that I am ahead. I really hate almost any 100% rule in poker, there is a time and a place where almost every move is correct.

Xaston, why exactly do people ever pay you off if you are so passive on the turn and river? Do you believe that you are the epitome of the "fake lag" style where you put in lots of money in the preflop and on the flop, but only value bet after that?
