Yeah you need to bet the turn not so much for protection (but that too) rather you have a monster and you want to get the money in. You can't expect a big river bet to get paid off very often (unless your opponent is brutal or slowplayed 2pair/set type hands) unless you build a pot.

I 1st thought it was a pretty trivial fold but now giving that you had already plopped in 40% of your stack it can go either way, I would probably call here unless your opponent is a super nit.

People don't 3-bet rivers without a straight on this board very often. Still, you should pay this off just so you can punish yourself for not betting the turn.
