TPTK - Blind vs Blind ($50 FR)

Postby MTPaid » Thu Nov 15, 2007 7:50 pm

Here's the interesting thing. Last time I was SB and he was BB, it was also folded around and here is what happened.

$0.25/$0.5 No Limit Holdem
8 players
Converted at

Stacks:
UTG ($82.70)
UTG+1 ($52.25)
MP1 ($29.60)
MP2 ($78.90)
CO ($48.10)
BTN ($49.00)
Hero ($99.25)
BB ($50.00)

Pre-flop: ($0.75, 8 players) Hero is SB [Jc][Jd]
6 folds, Hero raises to $1.75 ($97.25), BB calls $1.25 ($48.25)

Flop: [5c][4d][Tc] ($3.5, 2 players)
Hero bets $2 ($95.50), BB raises to $5 ($43.25), Hero raises to $21 ($74.50), BB folds ($43.25)

Final Pot: $13.50

Hero wins $28.85 ( won +$6.1 )
BB lost -$6.75

So here's Blind vs blind part 2 the very next orbit.....
BB is very tight (15/8) but is AF is infinite after 65 hands so far. He probably thinks I was just playin big stack bully last time in this position.

UTG+1 ($51.50)
MP1 ($34.65)
MP2 ($100.60)
CO ($54.05)
BTN ($48.75)
Hero ($103.60)
BB ($43.50)

Pre-flop: ($0.75, 8 players) Hero is SB [Ad][Kd]
6 folds, Hero raises to $1.75 ($101.60), UTG says "nh" ($48.95), BB calls $1.25 ($41.75)

Flop: [As][6h][8s] ($3.5, 2 players)
Hero checks ($101.85), BB bets $2.5 ($39.25), Hero raises to $10 ($91.85), BB goes all-in $41.75 ($0.00)

Is the way that he might perceive me so far (I've also been running at 28/13 at that table too) outweigh his tight aggressive stats here? Would this type of player play AQ/AJ or a draw so strongly after the way I've been bullying him the 2 hands so far?

As played, I probably call.

However, in both hands I feel like you are not raising enough.

I'd make it $2 everytime. Yes, I know it's small, but when the person is in the BB they are even MORE likely to call. So he's gonna call with everything.

First hand on the flop, your bet looks weakish which is probably why he raised and then folded.

On the second hand, why are you checking the flop after raising and hitting TPTK.

I think this is FPS. Bet, bet, bet and if you are raised reevaluate. If they fold too much. Great!

The $1.75 pfr is a bit of a long story but something I've been experimenting with for a while. From playing Full Tilt a few months ago, $1.75 was the bet pot button if you are opening. I've learned that people who are calling/folding for $1.75 will do the same for $2. Also, post-flop I can get away with smaller c-bets and they are still doing the same whether I bet $3/$3.50 or $2.50/$2.75.

About the $2 c-bet in hand 1, you're right. I'm not sure why I didn't bet $2.50 or $3.

2nd hand I c/r'ed because
1) I thought there's a good chance he'd fold if I c-bet because I'm supposed to have an Ace when I raise
2) I expected him to bet if I checked because he was aggressive and possibly thought I was on a steal.
3) Another thing was that if I bet and he just called and a spade fell, I wouldn't be sure where I stood because he could have a flush or just be sick of my pounding him. So, knowing that he'd most likely bet here, I thought c/r'ing was best because I'd probably still get him with a weaker Ace that way too.

Flawed thinking? Otherwise, c/r is not my normal play in this situation.

While I expected him to bet a draw too, I wasn't thinking set when he bet because I thought he might actually check that hand and try to get me to bet the turn. So well played by him. I called and he had 88.
