I'm pretty rarely in this spot, but I got in it yesterday. I opted to just call and hope villain 3 barrels so I can shove river. I think that is a mistake against all but the most aggro opponents.

I'm not saying raising the flop is wrong, but if you get shoved on you are always a dog. You are 47% against AK (43% if he has a diamond), 34% against AJ and 29% against JJ. So raising the flop with the intention of inducing a shove from a big A doesn't actually cause villain to make a mistake in the hand. If he will fold a big A, then you accomplish something.
