I raise 22 UTG to $4 (I have $140, Villian has $80). Villain re-raises to $14 total, I call

flop is 2 9 4

I check, villian bets $22, I raise to $50
thoughts? Normally I lead here but I have been mixing in a few check raises lately (both with and without big hands)

am I an idiot for Check raising here? should I have just led out like I normally do? Also part of the reason I didn't lead out was because lately I have been getting a ton of folds when I lead out in this situation
