Value town?

Postby gsdavid » Sat Oct 28, 2006 4:17 pm

this is 6max 100s
I think i lost a lot of value on these 2 hands...for some reason i play my most of TPTK, str8, FD and overpairs well but im total moron when it comes to sets and two pairs(i always see monsters under my bed so i just push them sometimes too hard)
hand 1:
i have [As] [9s] in UTg+1, utg limps so i decide to limp since its 5handed now and ive raised like last 3 hands in row, SB completes and BB(who is 18/6/4) so somewhat of a nit, kinda straight forward, he raise to 4bb(note, 3 of us in pot, he sould raise here usually to 6bb i guess)
anyhow..im the only caller and flop is
[2s] [5c] [6h] , pot is 10 bb and he leads fo 7bb which i found somewhat weak..so i miniraise to 14bb with air :S he raises only 6.2% but i figured this time he had AK, AQ KQs kinda hand
he calls and turn brings
[Js] giving me a FD draw..so now ive figure that villan does not have a big PP, so i have Ace outs and spade FD so i decide to bet 15bb in to 38bb pot..again, i think i need to bet 28+ here instead of this but i figured that i might build a pot a little if i hit and ive figured that villian is weak, missed flop so he might even fold to this..
he calls and river is [4s] giving me nuts, he checks and i think for about 3-4 sec and bet 40bb in 68bb pot..at that time i didnt realize that flop turned even scarier wwith obvious str8 on board...how much should i bet here if i take into account that my flush is hidden but river is a doulble scare card? how fast should i bet my nuts to make it seem more like a bluff?
input please

hand 2:
again i lost lots of value, since again a decent tag(PF raise 6% which i love to set mine raises)
again ive been raising a lot so i decide to limp in 67s on OTB since UTG limped..
BB who is 16.7/5.7/4.5 raises again to 4bb...so i guess these ppl wanna get called and set mined
i call and SB calls
flop is [7c] [6c] [4h] and pot is 13bb
this is kinda the worst kind of flop i can get..since i could be already behind with lose SB caller
anyhow, villian leasds fo 9bb and i reraise to 27..(it was a turbo table on ipoker so i had no time to act so i just put random number on 20+ range reraise)
villian thinks for a long time and folds..
better line? how to milk the villian and not lets SB get odds for a possible draw?
tnx

Hand #1 - If you were gonna raise on the flop, you should have more than min-raised; that guaranteed a call from hands like A-K and A-Q who think they can hit live overs for cheap value.

You should have made it 20bb at least. If he called that and than checked the turn, you could either ead out for 35-40bb to see if he was made with an over-pair, or just check behind and draw for free. Probably would be best to check-behind in my opinion, because if you raised it to 20bb+ on the flop, he wouldn't call you with A-K, he'd almost always have an over-pair, and a Jack isn't a scare card on the turn.

When you rivered the nuts, I would have taken my time for a little longer - maybe 20-30 seconds instead of 3-4, hen have led for a little less than you did, maybe 25-30bb, a little less than half the pot - something he can't help but pay-off to see if you got there.

Hand #2 - I think you played it right, and you shouldn't think that isn't a good board for you short-handed; what are you afraid of besides 5-8 and 4-4? And since it's been raised pre-flop, only 4-4 is likely, in which case it would just be a cold-deck. Guy could easily have a flush-draw, A-5, 8-7s, etc.

You even could have raised a little more on the flop to 35bb - you really dont want a flush-draw gutty calling you here (A-8/A-3 of clubs) - I don't really see myself getting off this hand, so I'd raise enough to kill the draws and show that I'm committed.

This isn't a flop you want to "Mlk" someone with - it's a spot to get your money and get out before the suck-out. 22bb isn't bad at all for a hand, espeically some piss like 6-7 - you should be happy he didn't call and than an 8 of clubs peeled off.
