calling might encourage him to continue a bluff/semi-bluff on the turn. he could easily have a hand like TT here and be betting into you to try to see where he stands.
If you call and he bets into you on the turn, do you fold? Do you bet if he checks to you?
presumably you'd be betting, and with $220 in the pot, presumably you'd be betting at least $150. tack that onto the 72 and you're looking at over $200 to try to win the pot on the turn.
So on the flop, I'd rather try to win it for a cheaper price. I raise to $200 here, fold to a raise, and shut down to a call. He should have a hard time calling with anything but AA/KK/55 or Qx OOP here. unless he either has a good read on you/is a donk.
