EP has $80 and just sat down. button is 22/7 with a PFA of 1.85. i have $400, button covers.

4 ways to the flop. $16. flop comes [8s][4c]. EP bets $8. i think about raising, but i've been getting absolutely no action on anything recently - just taking down pots left and right, so i decide to take my foot off the gas and slow down a bit, knowing i may need to let go of the hand if the board gets ugly. I just call. button calls also.

3 ways to the turn. $40 pot. falls. yum. EP bets $16. i just call again, button calls.

3 ways to the river. $88 pot. falls. EP bets $16. i raise to $116 hoping that the button was on a flush draw and will pay me off here.

I wouldn't do that all the time, but I like it. Obviously, normally you would be looking for a non-spade turn and then you will make your move. (Except you hit the jackpot and boated up, allowing you to let them see the river cheaply)

The key part of this hand is that button wants to come along for the ride and appears to be drawing. If he's not there then I raise the flop or the turn to build a pot. The only problem I see here is that your raise is so big you might get non-nut flushes to fold. I would probably be less greedy and raise to maybe 60-80.

So he folded I guess then?

sorry. forgot to post the results. he tanked for a while before calling with [Ts]. called me a fish for not raising the flop and said i was lucky i didn't lose a big pot.

true, but i don't think many people fold it there. the average player wont' give up a rivered flush like this after they've been chasing it. even as good as you are, you say you would reluctantly fold.
