So I register for an empty $210 4-man HU SnG this morning at like 2:30 AM, not thinking anything of it. I'm playing a few other tables, and then it pops up. My opponent? JERRY.
For those of you who don't know JERRY, he is a high stakes regular on Stars. In fact, I would say he is probably one of the 5 most frequent entrants into $5000 HU SnGs on the site. He also plays the $10/$20 NL and new $25/$50 NL with regularity. For HU matches, he's just about as tough as it gets (stevesbets, leemur1, X-13, dariominieri, Strassa2 (my personal pick for WSOP ME champ this year, I picked him before it started and he has a mess of chips!) and The_Takeover are some other notable VERY strong $5000 HU NL players).
The first hand he raises on the button to 4x and I call with QTo. The flop is Q83 with two hearts. Check Check.
The turn card is a 6 of diamonds making two flush draws possible (I believe). I bet and he ponders for a very respectable period of time, and calls.
The river card is an offsuit 3. Now pause.
I'm a no name. I'm playing High Stakes regular JERRY. Everyone tells you that blocking bets on the river suck. Strong aggressive players see right through em and raise you right off your hand. Well I decided I'd give him a chance to do just that. I bet 125 into a 400 pot. JERRY more or less insta-shoves. I beat him into the pot. A6 no good JERRY.
NEXT!
I look over at the other table. Some guy I don't know "Shahin86" and MazeOrBowie. MazeOrBowie is likely best known here as the gentlemen who lost to Twelver HU the other day at the end of Twelver's big win (congrats again!). I didn't watch the match, nor do I know what the chip counts were, but if I were a betting man my money would have been or Maze (sorry Twelver!). Maze used to be a regular in the $100/$200 game on Stars when it ran constantly, and as far as I know is a sick tourney pro mostly now. He has several live cashes in big tournaments as well. This man is not to be fucked with either.
This match was much longer and more chess like than my quick assault and dismantling of JERRY. To make a long story short, I won this match too.
Poor Shahin86, thought he was just playing a regular old 4 man HU SnG.
Cliff Notes: I entered a 4 man HU SnG and beat out 2 internet superstars on the road to victory. Some other poor schmuck registered for it and got stuck in a 4 man HU SnG with 2 internet celebrities and myself. Gross.
