Best of Metal / Hardcore / Metalcore

I vaguely recall reading some people here into bands like Unearth, one of my fav metalcore bands. If you aren't into heavy distorted guitars, metal, or hardcore music, you almost guaranteed will like none of these. Otherwise, ROCK ON!

1) If you like Unearth, I highly recommend checking out Parkway Drive. They stem from Australia (whatsup Roy), and their "Horizons" album is the best metalcore album I've heard since Unearth's "Oncoming Storm". A couple tracks from them:

My fav, "Five Months" (song, no video)
1min 20secs and beyond are the best parts. Love the solo and the breakdowns.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T2z55xTqM10

Very standard metalcore song, "Boneyards" (music video)
Basically, if you want to know what bare essentials metalcore sounds like, this is it.

--------

2) Another metalcore band I've gotten into lately is All That Remains. I only really dig their newest album "Fall of Ideals".

The song that first got me into them, "Not Alone"
I like how the melodic parts are very distinct and still have a metal edge to it.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mnDEFyV88Qs

A little softer singing during the chorus, "This Calling"
Just a general melodic metalcore track
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DdaOeAxy ... re=related

------------

3) This band won the Ozzfest Battle of the Bands, A Dozen Furies. They made one album, and apparently recently broke up. I still dig 'em

Hockey fans may dig this video. "Push Away" is the track.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SHx-EBtH4gs

A more melodic track, "Lost in a Fantasy"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AI-cXb3Mcvs

-----------

4) If you play Guitar Hero, you likely know this band - Lamb of God. They are basically the epitome of metal these days.

The GH track, "Laid to Rest"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fOWB6rmSd4I

One of the first tracks I heard by them, "Ruin"
Some great gritty heavy guitars
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LYlZAI2K0eU

-------------

5) You know how most bands soften up from one album to the next? Not these guys! Chimaira just get more brutal!

The song that got me into them, "Split" from one of their older albums
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w7XBFAvIJo0

Off their newest album, "The Flame".
The chorus in this song kicks so much ass, I mean, it even says it in the lyrics! "I'm gonna pound you into oblivion. I will make you fucking bleed. There is no escaping me. This is your destiny."

Final Fantasy fans might dig the video
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-4qW-HIT-RI

-----------

More later surely :)

For some inspirational Metalcore, look no further than Hatebreed. Nearly every song is about bettering yourself and the world.

The first track I heard by them, "I Will Be Heard". If you've never seen a hardcore throw-down pit, you get to see some clips here. I hate those pits  - mosh pits are cool though

If you don't live for something, you'll die for nothing. "Live For This" track

WTF has happened to metal? When I was in highschool, metal was just starting to really become mainstream enough to get "some" radio airplay. I absolutely loved it. Still do. But damn. I had to go all the way down to the 6th video you posted before I got to one where the singer didn't sound like total horse shit. Listening to them sing, I was honestly reminded of the sound I hear when I used to get so totally plastered that I would barf up my liver and other assorted organs in the toilet. For fucks sake, have all the decent singers died or decided they don't want to sing heavy metal anymore?! Even that 6th video turned to shit about 1/2 way through when they started singing with the puke voice again. I mean I can't even understand any of the words when they do that. You kept mentioning "melodic" in your little intro sentences. I am going to assume you meant the instrumental parts because no way in hell could that singing be construed as melodic. Shit man, When I was listening to Iron Maiden and Metallica when they were first starting out, people thought I was odd because I liked what they referred to as "Acid Rock" & "head banger music", but even these bands had singers that you could understand and follow their melodies. The songs in this thread seem to be pretty decent if you could remove the vocals as I think the musicians seem to know their shit. Even punk rock back in the day had understandable lyrics. I mean how the hell do you get your message across when nobody understands a fucking word you are puking into the microphone?

If this is what metal has come to, then unfortunately, metal is dead in the long run. And that is very sad as some of the best lyrics of all time IMHO were heavy metal lyrics. Thankfully the old stuff is still available. Get it while you can, apparently it isn't coming back.

Wow I have to say I agree with Seb here.... The music in a lot of those clips I like... The fact that the so called singer is just basically screaming incoherently into a microphone makes it shitty imo. I listened to the first few and I'll be honest, there's no way you could convince me that they are seperate bands... They all sound the same to me.

Hell I remeber when I was listening to songs when bands like Anthrax were coming out with albums. That was considered speed metal but even then you could actually understand the music. How exactly do you go about getting a song stuck in your head, or even sing along to something that sounds like
all the way through the song?

Sorry but if that is what is considered metal these days I'll have to consider myself old school.

Again, I mostly posted metalcore. Pantera would be the closest to the metal you're referring to. Metal has developed into a wide variety of subgenres - some that people don't like.

[quote="EscapePlan9"]I wouldn't really say metal is about being extremely angry. And metal fans generally don't "outgrow" metal.[/quote

We generally outgrow metalcore tbh.
