How many times do you need to pop your ear drums? You are probably ok as long as you dont get in a firefight in the bathroom (not that I hvae tried it) So you are probably right. I would rather not be going around corners in my house with a shotgun and I love shotguns

Good thing about them is the visual power and shot doesnt travel far but it devastating at closer ranges.

18" or so barrel security type shotgun is a good camping gun

I do have a shotgun, but I don't think it would be as easy to use during a home invasion, and lol it was downstairs with the buglers instead of upstairs with me.

I am going to be buying a handgun this week, so I will at least be a little more armed if it happens again.

I disagree that having a gun would have changed things. Think about what happened - you woke up and ran downstairs, but they already were driving away with your TV. What're you going to do, try to fire at the car as it drives away?

Seb: since he mentioned his home alarm going off, I assume it's through a security company. Most of them have dispatchers that quickly notify the police for you. I worked in ADT security company for a month as a dispatcher.
