lately i've been getting very very into scotch whisky. i started out with the glenlivet and glenfiddich stuff that everyone starts with, and now i go back and forth between a nice little variety - Macallan, Talisker, Johnnie Green/Gold, Clynelish, etc etc.
i'd heard stories about Laphroaig being a bit of an acquired taste. so tonight i tried some. seriously- what the fuck makes people drink this. its 2 hours and several glasses of water later and my mouth still tastes like some combination of peat bog and seaweed. this is by far the strangest bunch of flavors that i've ever tasted in any whisky from anywhere.
how does one accustom oneself to this sort of flavor? those of you who might drink it- whats your motivation? i'd really honestly like to know, in hopes that i can figure this out. it bothers me that i might not be man enough for this drink.

Irish whisky is only good for pouring into coffea, and its not even good then.
Macallan is my favourite too. But I actually don't mind a Laphroigh every now and then.
