actually Southwest does assign seats now..when you book online the closer to exactly 24 hours in advance of your flight time you get a number now (instead of A-B-C) they now give you A5, B3, etc...but to get a good seat, or at least your choice of a good seat, you should be at your computer ready to print your boarding pass exactly 24 hours prior to your flight...
then you will get something like A3 which means you are the 3rd person to board the plane and can sit anywhere you want..sort of nice since you can easily get the exit row...for a little more leg room
and the possibility of being a major hero (ROY) and saving everyone on the plane as you guide them out over the crash site while you stay back to make sure everyone gets out safely..I believe then you may also be entitled to free flights in the future , if you survive, on SW for your lifetime..
if that is too much responsibility you can let the fuckin 80 year old woman sit there who normally does who is 4'9 and her feet cannot touch the ground..
