Get XP as opposed to Vista (which is a lemon).

Get as much RAM as you can, don't worry too much about the processor if your primary use of the machine is poker. If you plan to play PC games or do video editing etc, then get the fastest processor you can for the budget.

One thing I really look for is how quiet the PC is - certain cases are designed to be low noise, I think they are a great investment.

and will try out the X64 Pro Corporate...

For the same reason I would not recommend Linux to an online poker player, I would tell Xas that he should try to get XP (32bit) if he is buying a store bought machine.

There may be some things that will prevent smooth gameplay experience in a non-standard OS environment.

Stick with what works, and do not worry about being limited to only <4gigs of RAM.

I have a Vista laptop with a 1900*1200 screen. II also use it as a desktop and hook one ore 2 aditional screens to it. It works great for me. Vista runs fab as long you use all Vista compatibale soft and hardware but most is these days.
I love the way Vista fixes it's own problems without me installing stuff.

I would not buy overcpacity if you only use it for poker. Two 30 inch screens sounds balla but I think 24 inch is just as good. If you go above 1900*1200 It really get's hard to see the bet amounts and stuff.

Just look across the internet you should be ok for under 2K and what about all those FPP's you got ?
