Day 1
January 1, 2008
A new year, and a whole new plan to finally get to the point of full time poker player. I retoactivated this new blog to Jan 1st because although the actual post of this entry is January 13th, I like the new year being day one of the new blog and my road to full time player. So onto the plan of action.
After much soul searching, analysis, and conversations with my wife Becci, the following is what will be happening in 2008.
A move to the Oregon Coast where I will have 2 casinos within 20 or so miles of my residence. This is where the actual bankroll building will take place. The earliest this will happen is June 2008. The starting bankroll at that time should be approximately $600. If I find a job fairly quickly Becci suggested that whatever is left of the $1000 we have set aside for the first month's bills and living expenses should be taken and put into the bankroll. Therefor that bankroll amount could be as high as $1000 plus, it all depends what the job situation is. Only time will tell.
In Oregon I will be playing live only, as ever since I started playing live I find online quite boring to me now. For 4 years mind you I played online in ignorant bliss, but once I got the taste of live play online lost all of it's appeal for me.
That being said, I have decided that online play is still necessary. I don't think sitting around for 6 months with absolutely no poker is a good idea for any player. You need to stay sharp, and the only way to accomplish this is to play daily, or at least several times a week. So, on Thursday, January 17th, I will in fact deposit $30 on Poker Stars. Some time back they decided to offer me the ability to make deposits via instant checks and I have decided to finally take them up on the offer. I will only be playing a single table and I have no desire to have any type of bankroll plan with this small bankroll with the exception of that as long as the online roll is $30 or less I will stick with the .05/.10 limit games. Any time I am over that amount I will try whatever I feel like. This accomplishes 2 things. One it gives me the opportunity to increase the online roll on a quicker pace, although I have no visions of the online roll becoming anything of substance by June, and two it allows be to get in my practise time while at the same time allowing me to set a base online roll of 300 big bets and thus will not put me in a position of ever having to reload because quite honestly the low limit tables, while frustrating at times, are quite easy to earn a profit and anyone who can't sustain a 300 big bet bankroll at the micro tables cannot hope to make it full time, so this is why I know I will not have to reload. Besides, if I ran into problems I would drop to the penny tables if I hit a bad run and thus the possibility of tapping out online is about 1 in one hundred thousand. Don't mean to sound arrogant, but those are essentially the facts.
So when will I become a full time poker player? Well let's see what I will be looking at. First off the smallest stakes offered at the Oregon casinos mentioned earlier is $2/$4. If the bankroll at that time is $600 I am looking at a 150 big bet bankroll to get me started. Not the 300 I would prefer, but we take what we are dealt and do the best we can. If $1/$2 was offered I would play that, but this is not an option so $2/$4 it is. I am actually glad this is the case as $2/$4 live is my favorite game to play, well, $2/$4 or higher to be honest. The $2/$4 live games I have experienced are very soft and most of the players that play these games live are mostly loose/passive types who are easy to exploit. Once I am working I will also be entering some live tourneys in Oregon. One of the casinos offers a $20 Omaha tourney each week and also a $30 NL Hold em tourney each week. The other casino offers a $40 NL tourney Mon-Thur.
To play full time the stakes will be $4/$8 to start with and I want a total of $10k. $3600 in a reserve account for weeks I don't produce profit and a $6400 bankroll. If I can earn $200/week playing on a part time basis then I can turn full time within one year of the actual move to Oregon. If I only earn $100/week playing part time then I will be playing full time within 2 years of the move to Oregon.
My wife, Becci, is amazing. She totally supports my dream to play full time and does everything she can to figure out ways to get me to that point. Her ideas on approach and bankroll management are both helpful and insightful. She also knows how to reign me in if she sees me being to anxious to make things happen too quickly. There are not many wives like the one I have. And I cannot tell you enough how much I love and appreciate this woman. She has said to me many times that I have to follow my dream and she is behind me 100%.

I have decided I will keep track of my sessions during my online play, and it's even possibe I may keep an online bankroll especially if this direct debit stuff on Stars actually works. No Poker Tracker or anything like that. I no longer need that sort of thing. A simple record on word pad will suffice.
I downloaded Poker Stars and checked out the instant check option and everything seems like it's ready to go. I will find out Thursday if everything goes through what with that Internet prohibition bill that passed. I have 7 cents on PS but unable to do anything with that. I was looking around and found they have a 10 fpp $500 turbo NL Hold em tourney. Turns out I still have 100 fpp's so I entered one tonight. Over 4000 entrants, top 801 got paid. Finished out of the money. 77 vs A5o Yup, the clown hit an ace on the river. LOL.
then a gap of posts I can't recover on google.. then

Then Again, Maybe I'm Not Done Yet
I withdrew my Stars money as I reported, but i had 400+FPP's so Iplayed 6 of those goofy turbo SNG's. If you win you get an entry into the $15k guaranteed $10/$1. My work schedule does not allow me to play so I withdrew and got $11 Tournament bucks. I took that and played 2 SNG's. A $5/.50 Limit SNG and a $5/.50 NL SNG. I won them both so all of a sudden I have $45 sitting on Stars.
What I said before holds true about the excitement being gone. Do i withdraw or do I play. Not sure what to do. I would like to have something built up for Oregon, but the constant bullshit of online suckouts drives me insane. I know why it happens. Because its so much easier for someone to simply click a button. In live play you actually have to put your chips in. Physically put your money in the pot. Online a simple button click. it makes a difference and that's why you have far far fewer bad beats live. So if I decide to play I need to find a way to get around this fact.
Need to think about it, Will let you know what I decide.

Will Resume In Oregon
Just can't seem to "get into" online poker anymore. I gave it a valiant effort, but the thrill it once held is just not there. I cashed out my Stars account which turned out to be a profit over the $70 deposit I made so I guess there is something to say about leaving the online scene a winner.
I doubt I will get too many opportunities to play live before the move to Oregon, but if I do I will keep you updated. Play well all and as always, be well.
