So I actually have something interesting to post about poker, mainly because I actually put in some proper hands yesterday.
I managed to squeeze in a couple of hours at work, the office was empty and I'd done everything urgent, I thought after quite a few recent late nights, I deserved an easy afternoon.
Well, easy afternoon was not what I got. I fired up 4 100NL tables, knowing I was slightly underolled but feeling in a shot taking mood. I basically got my ass handed back to me. I have never been 3 bet so much in my life, I found myself missing flops totally, calling for set value and missing almost everytime. The one time I made a set in a 3 bet pot the flop was as dry as ghandi's flip flop, so no action. So I got stuck $250.
I left work, got home and ate, and fired up another 4 tables. I started getting some hands, and taking down lots of small pots, and grinding, grinding, grinding until I was only $100 down for the day. Then, I got on a table with two of quite possibly the worst $100NL players ever. They was seated directly to my left.
Donk nr 1, runs at 70/9. Donk nr 2 runs at 89/1. So I waited patiently for a hand. Then it came. Donk nr 2 has a big history of shove bluffing the river with air, and I've seen him and donk nr 2 get involved with each other quite a few times, with donk nr 1 taking 200BBs off of him. Donk nr 2 is tilting, weak and a blufftard. If you look up the term "ATM" in the dictionary, there's this guy's screen name underneath it. So, the hand..
Its folded to me OTB, I pick up A4o and make its $4 to go. Donk nr 2 folds (he nows has a 400bb stack) and donk nr 2 calls. Flop is 442, umm ok so that's quite a good spot. Villian does what he does best, and donks $5 into an $9.50 pot. I smooth call. Turn is a 2, putting two spades out. Again, villian donks $5 into the pot. I resist the urge to make my move now, hoping history plays out again. River is the Ks, putting a three to the flush out there, and right on cue, donk open shoves around $90 into the $20ish pot, I obv fist pump and call, he shows
for the runner runnered flush and I drag.
Good things come to those who wait.
By the time he left, he had bluffed/donked $700 away, unfortunately donk nr 1 also left with his 350BB stack, probably to go and pay his rent or something.
So that put me square even and happier.
NV came on IM, so I closed my tables down and had a chat with him, he gave me some great info about the players he knows at $100NL, so thank you again mate.
I felt in the mood to play, so I fired up another 4 tables and found another 70/2 type with a 250BB stack. I battered the life out of him, scooping at least a buy in from him, and dragged some smaller pots in from the other tabels.
I ended the day $173 up. Well pleased.
I now fee comfortable at $100NL. In the afternoon session I was being battered 7 ways from Sunday and I didn't like it at all. But I'm now used to the bet sizes, I'm not scared anymore and feel confident that my own game is developing enough to make it at this level. I am still marginally rolled for $100NL but am confident I'll know when to drop down, if needs be.
I hope I don't.
BR - $1980
Cashed out - $700
