Day 1: Las Vegas
Current mood: awake
Category: Travel and Places
The plane trip wasn't so bad. The guy on the plane decided to give me 3 small bacardi rum bottles instead of 1, which made my day. Buzzing on a plane.. I highly recommend it.
I finally found where my luggage and taxi was at and made my way to Treasure Island. I must say Vegas is a pretty place. The buildings are bigger then I had imagined, the TV doesn't do the strip justice.
I played some blackjack while waiting for Suhleafs and tripled up my $100 after going "all-in." That's good because I was down about $150 from roulette. I met Suhleafs a couple of hours later. He also came on the trip and is rooming with me. We ate some dinner and headed over to the Mirage Poker room.
The Mirage poker room was dissapointing. MVP said it was a great place, but it was small and empty. They had a couple of 1/2 NL games going but only one 2/5 game. We left there prety quickly and just walked around.
We ended up at Ceasear's Palace. They have a new room and it's lovely. The chairs are very comfortable too. The women were beautiful, of course.
Anyway, I sat down at a 2/5 game and got no hands for 4 hours. The best I saw was pocket tens and one AJ. I had no AK, AQ, or premium pocket pair. Actually I only had 3 pocket pairs the whole night.
--------------------------------------------------------
Some hands:
Dealt 96o in the BB. Couple of limpers. I check.
FLOP $25
536 rainbow
Everyone checks to the button who makes it $25. I call him because he's played kind of crazy and I don't believe him just yet.
TURN $75
5368 rainbow
I check. He bets $100. Now I know he's bluffing. He acted too quickly, almost out of turn, and was trying to look too strong. I call.
RIVER $275
53686
Nice river. I check. He bets $200. I don't call immediately but take a few seconds to look over the draw heavy board. I didn't want to look like I knew I had him the whole time. Anyway, I call and he shows 57o for a pair and a straight draw on the turn. I take it down.
Hand 2:
Dealt
[3s] in the BB. Decent player raises to $20. Bunch of caller. I call because I like little cards.
FLOP$100
[5h][6h]
I check. He bets $65 and it folds to me. I didn't think he had it by his expressions and the way he bet his chips (they fell over and he restacked them.) While pondering all this, the guy starts talking about how he thinks I'm gonna come over the top of him. I start having doubts, but I just go with my initial read and put his last $200 in. He calls with JJ and I don't improve. Everyone on the table thought I was making a move with that hand, but I felt I had the winning hand. Ahh well.
Hand 3:
Dealt
[Ts]. I limp on the button.
FLOP$20
[5s][3d]
Blind and MP checks. CO (moron bets $20) I raise to $60. MP (a good player) wakes up and cold calls the bet and the raise. CO calls.
TURN$200
[5s][3d]
Check, Check, Check.
RIVER $200
[5s][3d]
He bets out $150, I just can't call it in my right mind..
Hand 4:
Dealt
[3c] on the CO (eh..my last round i was bored)
FLOP $25
[3d][9s]
Everyone checks to the button who bets $20. Folds to me, I call.
TURN $65
[3d][9s]
I check. He bets $65. I don't think he has it. I call.
RIVER $130
[3d][9s]
I look at my stack and realize I only have $80 left. (just lost that 5s3s hand.) I was going to bet, but decided to check. I couldn't figure out what he would call...figured I let him bluff. He checks behind and mucks.
------------------------------------------------------------------
I lost $100 that session but I thought I played great. I was wrong about the 35 hand but what the hell, I'm glad i followed through with my read. 2 for 3 on reads with marginals isn't so bad. Maybe my next session I'll actually get some cards.
