Well, I bombed out of the paper airplane contest. All the planes that flew really well in my indoor apartment the night before could not deal with the windy, rainey conditions out on the lakefront cabin. I had two planes pull loop-de-loops and nosedive and one that made a decent run at it. The winner made your basic T plane and threw it as high in the air as possible. The one throw that went straight just went up and drifted forward about 40 feet.

The title is out of HOH1. I read it the other night and reaized that one of the things I noticed in reviewing my old DB was that my winning sessions were someting like 3-4 big hands won, 3 or 4 big hands folded on 4th or 5th (for small losses) and not much else. My break even sessions were slightly more hands, with many more, not bigger (maybe 2-3 bb losses), losses per session.

I have been trying to get my starting hand selection straghtened out, and my post flop play tighened up. I think that the biggest difference is in the play of big pairs. I need to do a better job of differentiating between situations when the two pair redraw (as that is usually the only real redraw) is good and when it is not.

In the hand above, I agree that the 4th st play was bad.
Here is the question. What if (with the same hand) it is either checked on 4th or it is 1 small bet to you and you cap the action? How do you play it then. Once 5th comes, I just dont see how it can be laid down (considering you keep picking up outs).

If either of the above situation occurs, do you play 5th-river any differently?

Also, I dont see how cring 3 people will work at this level. I might get 1 to fold, but I still need to make my draw to win. And if I do make my draw (which I figure to be good enough given the huge pot odds by that point), I think I am going to make more from it with 3 people in.

I think you played that AA hand ok although I would have capped it off on 4th street as well. Not many times when a fold on 6th is correct but I think this time is one of those as the guy just hit a 4th diamond behind you and you could very well be in the middle of some shit if you call the initial bet.

The other hand I think you played it fine after you called and improved on 5th. I might be tempted to call in a big pot if I was closing the action in that hand on 4th but I probably would let it go, I guess depending on the state of mind I was in at the time (ie. Had I just been cracked in a big pot I am in there )

Playing a $10 stud h/l mtt. Started with 183, down to about 75 towards the end of the second hour.

Finished 5th out of 184 for $119. Dissapointing, considering how I got to the final table. There was a couple hands where I got unlucky (had that 5 not come and split the next to last hand, I might not have been all in with the 823).

Still, my first stud h/l final table in a couple months. Pissed about missing out on the win, but cant complain too much. Eventually a time will come when I wont run cold at the final table and that third stud h/l tourney win will follow.

Bleh, minorly craptacular day.

-70 at crypto 1/2. Coundent get anything to hold up, including AAx x3, KKx x2 (including one that turned into trip kings on 4th) and a sweet little flush v fh.

-100 at 2/4. Wasnt going to play 2/4 for a while, but 3 of the biggest losers in my old db were sitting in the same game. Tilted off the last 30 or so after getting qqq cracked by 8822 in a 95 pot.

On a (minorly) brigher note, I ran the free $40 that party gave me up to $100 or so, playing .50/1, 1/2, then 2/4. The 2/4 game there is, well, lets just say I found a new home for my 2/4 play (along with the 1/2 bonus clearing at cryptos).

I have been working off the BW extra bonus at sun, I think I am going to go to a 2 month rotation on that one, because 15x (even with stacking with the monthly there) clears too slow. If I stack two months there before playing it, the extra 100 is a 5x (or free if I stack 3 months there, but that means I will be playing more at 2/4 elsewhere).

I am still losing a ton with big pairs. I was looking over my PTS db and 4 of my 5 biggest losing hands are AAx or KKx. I will put a longer thread up on the subject in the other poker game section at some point.

It is a stupid raise on the river I know. I probably left about $300 on the table on abut 5 horrible river cards. I lost two flushes to two bad fullhouses, as in 6622 with dead cards on fifth, me with a monotone board and 3 other overs showing, but hit the two outer on the river fullhouses. Just a massacre of an evening.

That having been said, I am pretty happy to be down 30 for the night. I also finished off the 400 raked hands to release the free $40 party gave me. I am also pretty damn happy that the $40 party gave me on tuesday (which I had blown pretty quickly the last two times they gave me free money with a raked hand requirement) is now $193 on party. That and the fact that I feel like I can beat the 2/4 tables there.

I know nights like this are going to happen. Just need to weather the storm.

Hopefully the month of rain we have gotten will let up tomorrow, and I can actually get out of the house for a bit. I think I am going to (once I finish up the sunpoker monthly) take the rest of the week/labor day to (again, praying that the weather clears) spend some time outside.
