Side effects of pro poker are completely ridiculous sleeping patterns combined with staring at 2 computer screens for a lot of each day.
This has been my life for years. Yes, it's sad, but i'm used to it and much prefer a job sitting infront of a computer from 9pm to 4am than taking inventory in a store or serving customers, or something like that.
Poker's going to be something to support myself while at university, i'm doing a full-time course but only go 2 days a week and i don't study or put in any extra work at all until the night before an exam/assignmet is due. I'll be meeting friends at uni those couple of days and will make sure to get out of the house and socialise during the weekend.. part of the reason i want to move out is that i'll be able to go out with friends and meet new people more easily if i do..
I've thought about a part-time job but at the moment i think it's something i'll defer from, although once i've moved out if I find poker too stressfull or that i'm not making enough then i'll get another job.
I don't plan on playing poker forever either (well not yet at this point in time anyway), but it's certainly providing better income at the moment than any other job I could possibly get..
I'm looking to put in 30 - 40 hours a week, playing 6 - 8 tables at a time (i might increase this if I can sustain a decent winrate over 100k or so hands). I've been putting in about 12,000 hands a week lately so I don't think any month will be able to be THAT terrible, 50k hands is quite a lot and any variance shouldn't last that long..
Interesting comments though, thanks for the input
How long have you had poker as a job for?
