I’ve been on fire in the multi table tournaments in various Omaha games. 6 final tables in the last 3 weeks with 4 cashes.
Last night I played the Full Tilt fixed O8 $22 tournament with 32 players. I was chip leader for most of the second half of the tournament and most of the final table. We got down to 4 players (now we were all in the money). I had about $12K in chips and a dude to my right had about $13K. Another guy had $6K and the other had $2K. So I was in good shape but needed one big one to put it away. Here’s how it went down:
My hand is:
A 2 4 K
Flop is: 10 3 J
I bet $2000, dude calls
Turn is: 3 (I now have the nut flush, although there is no low possible at this point)
I bet $2000 and he re-raises me (this is where hubris sets in and I call)
River is 5
I check, he bets and I call (I simply had to, even though it left me with only $800 in chips)
He turns over 3s full of 10s for the full.
I knew I was beat when he re-raised me, but for some reason I just couldn’t fold the hand. It cost me big time. I won $76, but first place got $288 and I should have done no worse than 3rd.
It’s the difference between going for it and playing like a wuss. Sometimes the aggression gets the better of you.
This hand bothered me all night of course. After kicking booty for 2.5 hours, I was beginning to feel unstoppable. The guy I was in against had just gone from poor man to rich man and I didn't have a great read on him. I realized that the guy had to have a full, but I was so deep into the hand I just couldn't fold it up. Have any of you been in the same situation? Its easy to say that the board paired and watch out, but at that point I have like mayb $3000 in chips left and I couldn't give him credit for the full with that much cheese out there.
