My first post here after lurking a while. Hi everyone.
Stars $1M GTD this sunday.
My first major tournament, though I've cashed in a fair number of smaller 5 figure GTDs. I'm pretty deep in the money, 225 players left, already winning $900 from $15 invested via satellite. The next two money jumps involve 50%+ of the field vanishing, for a payoff of $200. Wow, big money. So I'm thinking it's time to move into attack mode and double up by any means necessary, so I can survive four or five jumps, where the money starts to ratchet up.
The blinds are eating me-- my M is 6 now, and the blinds are about to go up, putting me effectively in the Red Zone (Harrington talk). My Q is laughable, everyone's stack is bigger, 2-3x average. I have just enough chips to make an allin loss painful, nearly crippling for some.
I'm dealt AJo in mid pos. The table has been mostly tight except for VILLAIN.
VILLAIN raises EP 2.5xBB, has been quite aggressive preflop, taking down more pots than me uncontested. I know he will call if I reraise allin, since he's called with pretty average (AT+) type cards before for big chunks, and also with mid pairs. I've had an absolute dirt run of cards, and am looking at AJo, my first double paint in forever. As you can see below, I reraise allin, and get called HU. My opponent turns over AQ and holds up to eliminate me.
So. Was it a good idea? I think about all the coinflip or domination hands I could have, and think maybe so. Then I think I could have tried to hold on for big slick+, and think maybe not-- I wasn't THAT desperate. I end up deciding that even if I'm dominated, my future is so bleak given my M/Q relationship and the future prize levels, that I am justified going allin even with no fold equity. $175,000 is on the line. $200 is pretty ridiculous in comparison when my costs for the next month are already covered.
I'm extremely conflicted over this one. Help?
