Friday Foxwoods Tournament and ACT I

Postby starstealer » Wed May 04, 2005 2:04 pm

So I'm gearing up for my trip to Foxwoods for the weekend a week from this Friday. I have that Friday off, and although I wasn't originally intending on going in this early, I see there is a tournament on Friday morning. It would involve needing to leave my house at the ripe hour of 6am most likely - but I'm curious as to whether anyone's played in it and if he/she has - how it is for play and structure. From the description, it seems reasonable - but I've never played a live tournament before (although I have played 300+ online ones).

Also, I'm thinking about trying an ACT I to the World Poker Finals in October - but whether I do or not depends on how my winnings (or lack thereof) are looking by Saturday night. If I do play one, it will probably be on Sunday morning.

Lastly, if anyone is heading over to Foxwoods during the weekend of the 13th - let me know. I'm always interested in meeting new people.

Good luck and have fun. I look forward to hearing about it when you get back.

Well, I definitely haven't committed to the tournament(s) yet. I'm planning on bringing about $1k to be split between the wife and I. If I put up the money for the tournament on Friday morning, that's $100 right there ($80+$20 - much higher juice than I used to online).

The Act I is $60 ($45+$15) and is a satellite to the Act II which is then a satellite to the Act III which gets you into the main event. I like the idea of trying to get to the $10k entry event in October for $60 - but to be realistic about this - it isn't all that likely.

Act I pays 2 seats into an Act II of my choice (10 players max)
Act II pays 2 seats into an Act III of my choice (10 players max)
Act III pays as many main event seats as is allowed by the prize pool, then, of the remaining money in the prize pool as many Act III seats left (to try again essentially). (No max on the number of players).

The first two levels I wouldn't think would be too difficult (not to say they won't be, but I do only have to get to the final two in a one table SNG). The third level pays one seat for every ten entries - so that doesn't seem too bad. The key of course, is to do it all on the original buyin - and that's where I'm balking.

At least the Friday tournament is pretty cut and dry and I can get paid right away... if I hit the money...

I'm really hoping that someone on this board has some advice about the ACTs or the Friday tournament. I know we're still small in numbers, but I know at least a few of us are in the area...

My older brother played in a 500 dollar tourney at foxwoods. Got ninth place, and made 7k I think. He had no complaints about the structure and said the competition is fairly weak until you get near the money.
