Well, I promised a bit of a tournament report from Friday. Unfortunately, its Monday and things are a little difficult to remember. I will do my best.
This is a $80+$20 live tournament at Foxwoods. No limit hold'em, 130 players, 2000 chips to start, blinds at 25/25. There are a few hands before my original table is broken up (because we started on 15 tables).
My first hand I play, I have A8s and open raise to 100. I get one caller and don't hit the flop. I check-fold to a pot-bet.
At the new table, I don't play much until the 2nd level (25/50). I get 99 UTG and open raise to 200. I get one caller and then someone pushes his stack. I fold.
-- I hate these first 2 hands and the way I play them. I'm still a little nervous at the table, but it is fading quickly.
I fold for a little more and finally get kings in the big blind. A guy in MP open raises (big stack to me) to 200 and one guy calls. I've got a little over 1000 and push. Only one guy calls. He has QJ and I double up.
Next hand, I have AKs in the SB and it folds to a loose player (and by loose I mean he plays almost every hand) who raises to 200. It folds to me and I push (vast overbet, I know...). The BB folds and he calls with a smile as if he's got me licked. I flip my cards and he sinks under the table. He has AQ and I double up again.
I don't play a hand for most of the rest of the hour and eventually get to this hand early on. I have 99 UTG and open raise to 800 (blinds were 100/200 with an ante). It folds around to the BB who pushes. There's about 4k in the pot now and it is only about 1200 for me to call. If I fold here, I've got 4k left. I decide to call - he has jacks and I don't improve.
Little bit latter I pick up pocket tens in EP and open raise to 800. The loose player pushes and I've got him covered - I call. He has pocket fives. I catch a ten on the flop and one on the turn for quads to take him down.
One interesting hand that came up: One player moves all-in on a flop of Txx against two other players - they both call. The first player has QT - the other two have ATs...
I manage to survive to the 2nd break and I think I'm in good shape with my stack. I get back to reality though when I realize that the blinds are going to 600/1200 with a 100 ante and I've got 6k left. We're down to 4 tables now and it pays to the top 20.
First hand after the break, I get aces and push from EP. Everyone folds.
I fold through the next round (BB was 35o and raised all-in from EP, SB was 92o and similarly raised...), and eventually find KJs in the BB. There is one limper to me and he's got an equivalent stack. I check. The flop is jack high and I push - he folds showing QTs.
I fold my SB and do a quick count - 28 players left. My button comes up and I've got KJs again and now it folds to me. I've got 3300 and both SB and BB have me covered. SB is new to the table. BB has been real loose about calling anything. Push or Fold?
Anyway, I pushed, he called with A3o and neither of us improved. I'm out in 28th.
