Heads up tournament, input needed

Postby Rhound50 » Mon May 23, 2005 11:33 am

Ok sounds like we have enough interest in the idea of a heads up tournament that we can make it work, so I want ideas and suggestions on how we want to run it. I was thinking something along the lines of everyone pays $10- $50 (totally up to the group), to me (since I will be running it) through whatever means can, depending on how many people we get we decided who how the $ we want prizes dispersed. My guess was we will end up somewhere in the 10-20 people range so I was thinking we should have the top 3 or 4 spots pay out, with first getting 50% on down. The one thing I am not sure about ism is there a way to create a private heads up tournament on any site? If not we may have to find ways to communicate over IM or whatever to make sure we sit down at the right table pretty much at the same time. As for the heads up games, I was thinking we should do a best 2 out of 3 for each round. That way when I mess up and under bet TPTK on the flop and MG calls with bottom pair and sucks out on me I have a chance to get hm back =). Any and all suggestions are welcome.

As a side not, I'm donating all my winnings, if there are any to BTP.

I like the idea of 2 out of 3 and I would want the lower amount of money because I'm probably gonna be donating so I don't want my lessons to cost too much.

I added a poll so we can get a vote on how much the buy in should be

Is that $20 per round, or total??? I'm down w/ whatever, but $5 for 10 people will pay $25 to the winner for 5 weeks worth of work...?

I dont think the idea of sending money to you will work. I would have no problem with that, but we have to pay the entry fee to play the match.

What we did last time at UPF was just decide what the stakes were in advance and play the match.

If the 1st round is for $10, then the 2 players decide when to play and jump into a $10 heads up SNG. The winner wins $10 (or $9.50 actually).

Then all the 1st round winners play a 2nd round for $20 this time..and so on. The winner(s) win money as they go and they also get listed somewhere on BTP as tourney winners and get recognized that way as well.

Unless some site has heads up SNGs for play money, but I doubt it.

I guess I didnt think aboit that Ice, I was thinking we would just play the $5 h2h and then do the prize distribution, I think by doing it that way we will end up paying less money to the poker sites in buy-ins. What does everyone else think???

So you want everyone to donate $10 or $20 or whatever to the total prize pool....and then play the cheapest ($5) heads up SNGs where the winners of each match would keep their winnings from each match as well as whatever they win in the total prize payout?

That sounds fine to me.

Yeah that was kind of what I was thinking, the reason that I didnt want to move up levels, is that I want to make it best 2 out of 3, if we do that someone that wins their first match 2 out of 3 and lthen loses two in the next round lose's more money than by losing in the first round. What I would really like is if we could find a place that let you play heads up for play money, but so far I haven't found one. If not pokerstars has $5 heads up with slow incrementing blinds, that only has a $.25 add on.

Yeah, that is the other option, the reason I dont like it is we lose an extra $10-$12.5 in prize money to the rake as opposed to playing all $5 heads up stng's. I willing to run this either way, depending what other people want to do. Maybe after we get everyone signed up we can take a vote.

Hey, I'd be interested in playing something like this if the buy-ins are smallish.
