There is a live tournament that is on every friday here in brisbane at a university (Roy plays there with me) i was hoping to get some pointers on how to play this and get into the money more often than not. The format is generally $20 buyin (5k chips), 1 or 2x $20 rebuy (5kchips) and 1 addon after 1 hr (5k chips)
I usually don't have to rebuy twice, but sometimes i get into a position where i have a very strong hand (one hand i'll try to remember at the end for example) and i'm all in and lose, so i rebuy.
I have made it to the final table a number of times, and only cashed twice (for the minimum cash ~$60-$80). I feel like the majority of the players in the tourny are pretty donk, however there are a few who are good and have the ability to make some pretty advanced moves.
My usual line is in the rebuy period try and build a big stack, by playing Axs and SC hands, trying to get some big pots going when i make a monster. I have gotten to the break point with heaps of chips (say ~15-20k) and i've also gotten to the break with barely 5k in chips, I feel that after the break that I continue to play well, however i either play too tight getting to the late stages of the tournament, or i end up in a big coin flip (usually a med pp vs overcards) and lose that to be out.
I'm looking on ways to improve my game to amass chips during the first few levels so that i have chips to play with during the later stages of play.
the hand i mentioned above went like this:
8 handed, blinds 50/100 (stacks are at the ~5k mark)
I have QdJd in bb, 3 folds, MP calls, all fold to me, i check
flop comes KdJs3d
I lead out for 300, Villain calls
turn comes a Qc
i bet 1.1k, MP re raises me all-in, i call
river 2c
Results:
I have 2 pair - queens and jacks, he has KK and takes the pot with top set
Any other lines i could take on this type of hand?
