I agree that you should play whichever way is best for you, kowboy. I'm more or less trying to validate the LAG game, because it's so often connotated with a poor player. I read an article by Negraunu today, which has a very logical reason to play loose early.

Basically, he says most of the worst players are going to go out in the first few levels. That's the prime time to start building your stack. It's a ton easier to turn 1500 into 5-6k against a bunch of fish than it is against the tighter players that you'll face later in the tournament, and that's normally enough to have a very decent position coming into the bubble period, depending on ammount of entrants of course.

There's a ton of dead money in these tournaments, I would rather take it from the fish than try to take it from the solid players.

Again, these are just more or less my thoughts, not trying to rile anyone. :)

Makes a lot of since. The first 2 rounds at least. Guys are going all in with about any 2 cards. I may give it a try and see how it goes.

I'll let you know the results.

I repeat---I am SOOO glad I started this thread...One important thing--- when I wrote the original post, it was partially with my frustration with LIMIT tourneys...I think we are most all on the same page when it comes to PL and NL---I have never been afraid to make a move there, most folks who are smart enough to be part of BTP are the same...We are all going to have slightly different styles, but we also have to be true to ourselves...Gus can't play like Harrington or vice versa...I heard a great line watching the Aussie Open (Tennis)...The gal said "Don't die wondering"...

Having said that, I am going to try to tweak a little Mid-tourney play (if I have the cards LOL) and see what happens...I will keep you all posted...I play the smaller ones, so it will be worth a try...

yes, this was an excellent thread. I just found BTP.com and was rummaging through the old postings when I found this one.

GREAT STUFF

I have been trying to perfect my tournament strategy and I have tried some different ones and been successful with both.

I won a MTT with 68 people entered on BugsysClub - $10K in starting chips, blinds start out 25/50 with 10 minute levels and I was limping with ANY Pocket Pair, any AXs, and any connector (suited or not. I was also raising with top hands when I had late position always raising the same amount, 2xBB and I usually followed up with a continuation bet of 1/2 the pot if I had callers no matter what the flop.

I also won a MTT with 87 people entered on BugsysClub - $10K in starting chips, blinds start out 25/50 with 10 minute levels and I was playing only premium hands. First 90 minutes of tourney I probably only won 2 hands and that was from the Blinds but then I got KK and doubled up just like that and BAM was at avg stack. Contintued on, folding and folding and just pushing the hell out of my Big Hands. Once it was down to about 30 people I changed gears to prepare myself for the final table. I had built such a good image as a "Rock" that I was stealing left and right. Once it was the final table I played a solid game and won.

I think all the strategies work - you just have to see which one works for you and you have to ttry them all out.

Good luck everyone,
JDK

If you want to win NL MTT's read Action Dan's books 1 and 2 he is both LAG and TAG. I was TAG now that I am learning to play LAG also I am making a lot of final tables.

The trick is to learn when to play TAG and when to play LAG.
