I actually don't play tournaments, but if I happen to be online when Check-N-Raise has their 3:30 pm $50 freeroll I'll sign up. Today there were about 239 people, and I finished in 5th. Side note: the very first two times I played this freeroll, I was dealt QQ the very first hand, got all-in against worse hands, and lost.
This time, I was getting good cards, and they were holding up. I doubled up (or better) with JJ, QQ, KK, and AA. Flopped a set of 2's and got someone to call my push with AA to double up again. The AA hand was funny - blinds were around 100/200, and I raise to 1000 from the BB; SB is the only caller. Flop comes 773, and SB instantly goes all-in (I have him covered) Thought about it for a few seconds, decided he moved in too fast to actually have a 7 or a 3, and called. He flipped over J2.
I was the chip leader off and on, but by the time it was down to the final table I was in 5th place - with a pretty good chip margin over 6th place and lower. Hit a cold streak of cards, and was finally knocked out when I pushed pre-flop with 99 (I had 30K chips, blinds 2K/4K) and get called by KK.
I won a whopping $2.40 for my efforts, but that's more than I've ever won before in a tournament, so I can't complain too much.
