In times where I'm just not getting good hands, and I can.. y'know, "feel" like I'm not gonna have much to play for a while, I just look for a decent chance to get a good sized stack going. For example:
You haven't really played anything thus far, but have managed to win a couple pots on the flop with a raggity board. So your stack is right around 1k while the average stack is around... maybe 1200.
Let's assume the blinds are 25-50 as well.
You pick up 94s in the small blind, and are ready to muck unless you get a ton of callers.
UTG folds.
UTG+1 raises to 150.
UTG+2 calls.
MP folds.
MP+1 raises to 500.
MP+2 (Big stack) calls.
CO (small stack) raises all in to 750.
Button folds.
Ok so right now there is 2125 (I think) in the pot. But there will most likely be anywhere from 2625 to 3325 in the pot by the flop, if you don't act. (That's assuming nobody raises, which may be unrealistic.
Now if you move in right here, if UTG +1 and +2 don't call, but the others do, there will be 3125 in the pot, plus your 1k, which would probably give you enough to bully around the table and slowly build your stack up a bit. Even though your chances aren't exactly fantastic of winning, you probably aren't under 10-15% to win this pot.
Even if UTG+1 and +2 come along, it's probably worth the risk seeing as there's no other way you'll make it to the money if you don't get something soon.
Partake in my bollocks, bloody chav!
