The turn action on this hand is like the twilight zone. The flop checks around. Then the relatively harmless looking [5d] comes on the turn and all hell breaks lose?!? Really weird.

That type of action is tough to figure out. You do have a couple of blockers with the [Ad] and [9d], but CAHEKK's action is screaming like a strong made high hand such as a set or possibly top two-pair. nutsbabys is obviously going low possibly with an accompanying flush/straight draw. Since you have no low possibilities, the question is how often is your set of 5's good for the high? If you think your set is good, you need to shove to make the competing draws pay. Otherwise you need to bail. Calling is horrible. I'd probably scratch my head and fold. The downside of running into a bigger set is devastating. You'll be a healthy favorite if your set of 5's is currently best, but giving your opponents at least a couple of draws (low, flush/straight) you won't be crushing. I think the weighted average downside of running into a bigger set outweighs the times you get it all-in as a moderate favorite.

FWIW, I'd fold this hand pre-flop even out of the SB. But I if you want to complete, I won't give you too much crap for it.

1) pf complete is fine, imo, if you have good implied odds (seems like you do) and you can avoid reverse implied odds (not so sure about this).

2) there are several ways to play this flop from the sb. one is just to be super-passive and check-call down hoping to get one or more check-behinds and maybe induce a bluff. this line starts to suck on the turn when you're letting a lot of hands draw. another line is to bet out the flop -- this is good if people will fold anything but sets and wraps. the last line to consider is a variation on the passive line -- check with the intention of calling one bet and then reevaluating on the turn or just check-folding the flop. in a really loose game you're not losing much by folding here.

3) i really like what tom said -- you are probably a moderate favorite or a big dog on the turn, and i'm not sure this is a good time to pick a fight. if this is where i think it is, you don't need to push marginal hands without reads.

Checking flop and pushing 'safe' turn is pretty much standard set play, no? I'd have raised preflop with AA generally, but I'd have played 99 or JJ exactly like that, banging the turn to charge the low and flush draws.

I'd also have instafolded A55h preflop, as there isn't a single board besides 234, 55x and AAA that you should fall in love with, but that's me.

Ya, I think this more or less sucked. Just trying to get it in perspective I suppose. Been running close to break even for a statistically insignificant period and so chucking away stacks frivolously is pissing me off a bit. Meh.
