On a more helpful note, it seems that one can now order Rolf's book on PLO. Anyone who has seen it?

Long time lurker here, great forum

I recently spoke with Rolf and his book is due out in October.

As far as books on Limit Omaha 8, The tenner/krieger book is a great place to start, Cappalletti's book is for a more seasoned player looking past starting hands and drawing to the nuts only, hi/lo split poker for advanced players is for tight aggressive games (something you will rarely see at low or mid limits), the ciaffone book has a short section on limit O8 (about 15 pages) good advice but really what can you explain in 15 pages :)

I think the best info on the game is on Steve Badgers website. Couple that with the tenner/krieger book and you'll do pretty well. Just avoid their starting hand advice and stick to A2 A3 handswith a few exceptions.

Hi Suckerpunch, welcome.

Just wanted to add that I like the Steve Badger site but there seems to be some issues with some of his PLO8 advice - some of it isn't very detailed and he does seem overly tight to me. I think Wintermute has mentioned some issues he has with it too.

I wouldn't take his word as the be all end all, or anyones for that matter, but his insights into O8 are very good. I haven't read any of the PLO8 advice I was just speaking about his thought on limit O8.

I play a tight aggressive style in full ring and a semi-tight super aggressive style in 6 max. I raise more hands than most and this works for me. Whenever asked I don't recommend people start out playing like I do but over time I have learned the nuances of the game that play to my strengths.

My PTO numbers for limit hi/lo are VPIP: 20% for full ring 27% for 6 max PFR: 4% for full ring 8% for 6 max. Live i am slightly more aggressive for 2 reasons: I am a very respected player and the pool of O8 players is small so most know me and I can use tells and such to my advantage which is a big assett of mine.

I would say to start out very tight/passive pre-flop to get a feel for the game. The biggest profit in O8 comes from identifying the bad players, this is where 99% of your money comes from in this game. As you get more comfortable playing I would loosen up a bit and eventually start increasing your pre-flop aggression (yes I'm one of those players who raises A2wheel from almost anywhere). Over time your own style will form depending on the specifics of your game and your own abilities.

I hear many O8 players staticly talk about the game: I never play 23, A2 isn't that good, Always raise AA, blah blah blah. I rarely hear these players say why they think this way. Over the years I've learned when and why to play a 23 or raise with A2xx, and why I routinely fold AAxx pre-flop. I don't like regurgitating other peoples ideas without trying them out first or dismissing some others.

I know people who raise 2358 and are long term-winners and I know others that only play A25 or better and are also winners, the ideal way is blending the 2 extremes to the circumstance. O8 is more complex than people give it credit for.

Kind of lost track that this was a book discussion while I was typing that up
