Not much of a read on opponent. He's been fairly quiet so far. I bet only about 1/2 pot on the turn because I wanted a call and it would still allow me to shove the river for a little less than a pot sized bet if I chose. Obviously I wanted to hit one of my kickers, but considering I think he has an 8, that's probably not a great river card for me because it connects with the 8. Can I still value bet and expect a call from a worse hand here? (The slowplay and river c/r attempts run pretty rampant at this level.)

1 folds, 2 and 3 maybe call, 4 calls and/or crs. i check behind without a better read since i really want to show this hand down and am probably ahead. the read i would want to know is "win sd raise river" and maybe "fold to river bet %"-- these would allow me to make a better decision.

this may sound dumb, but i really want to show down my decent-but-not-great made hands without reads. this allows me to see what they have and how they play it, and it prevents them from outplaying me (if they have it in them). i make every effort to get reads before i make marginal aggressive plays. some people play like retards, and when someone doesn't have reads on you, aggressive retardation isn't always a bad strategy.

fwiw, i would have bet more on the turn.
