Omaha 8 NL - All in PreFlop

Postby teknipper » Sat Mar 05, 2005 8:53 am

I wanted to get peoples opinion on going all in preflop with and AAxx hand in NL O8. Originally, I was against the idea believing it was only a slight +EV move and would add dramatically to variance.

Using PokerTrackerOmaha, I have tracked the move for 50 hands at the UB NL 25 tables with the following stats:

25 scoops
10 split
15 loses

In many of the situations, there were multiple callers preflop creating ~$75 pots. I am starting to think this move is a little better than slightly +EV and wanted opinions on it. It should be noted that some of the AAxx hands were NOT suited and didn't contain a low draw.

Interesting info. I think a major caveat is that you need to be playing against stiff who will put all their money in on high only hands, or holdings like A257 that you will be favourite against even with a moderate AA hand. I get all in if possible in short stack games anytime I have AA with a wheel card, though I would baulk at doing so without that backup on the side. Something like AA8T is not an all in hand IMO because you are simply not a big favourite against any sort of holding. But your figures are interesting.

Any chance you can split your info based upon a couple of groupings of AA hands and present the data? Perhaps something like AA2, AA other wheel, AA with another low, AA high only, and see what the stats look like then.
