PLO200 on Stars. This table has been playing pretty wild, with one guy raising maybe 40% of his hands to $6 and typically premium hands maximum. But he doesn't figure in this hand, where villain is pretty new to the table.
Maniac limps, as do 4 others, and SB completes. I'm in BB with 9s9hQs8d. I check, so 7 players see the flop, which comes As9c4c. SB checks, and I bet pot of $14. Maniac actually folds, and new MP player with about $140 mini-raises to $28. I re-raise, he pushes, I call. He shows AAT8 with top set AND the club draw. I of course lose the hand (he hits clubs on the turn and quads on the river).
Without a read here, I think (hopefully not being results-oriented) really the best thing to do here is just to fold. With me betting into a field of 7 players, I really have to have a strong hand of some kind. I think about the worst hand he could possibly have would be something like A4 with nut club draw (ok, so I'm ahead of that one).
Here's my opinion: Ok, if someone mini-check-raises when you bet in LP, that can be weak, wanting to buy a turn freecard. With position, I think it's not a bad call unless your bet was more or less a pure bluff. But if you bet out into a big field and get even a mini-raise, that's going to be an extremely strong hand, so whatever it does for table image, I'm for folding immediately without AA in my situation.
