PLO $25 - Should have done a brunson?

Postby Stoneburg » Thu Jun 01, 2006 6:54 pm

I was considering doing a Brunson here, like he depicts it in SS where he bluffs someone off a split pot.

Seat 4: djjeffypoo ( $23.30 )
Seat 7: miwodo ( $22.01 )
Seat 8: timmodogg ( $29.17 )
Seat 3: Hero ( $24.65 )
Seat 1: FishermanSwe ( $37.30 )
Seat 5: fwchan ( $13.87 )
Seat 10: Viking36 ( $15.35 )
Seat 9: Knewgen ( $24.60 )

Dealt to Hero [Qh] [Kc] [Ah] [Kh]
Hero calls [$0.25].
djjeffypoo folds.
fwchan folds.
miwodo folds.
timmodogg folds.
Knewgen folds.
Viking36 calls [$0.15].
FishermanSwe checks.

** Dealing Flop ** [Jh] [2h] [Ts]
Viking36 checks.
FishermanSwe checks.
Hero bets [$0.75].
Viking36 folds.
FishermanSwe calls [$0.75].

** Dealing Turn ** [9c]
FishermanSwe checks.
Hero bets [$2.15].
FishermanSwe raises [$8.60].
Hero is all-In.
FishermanSwe calls [$15.05].

So which is better? Get it in while free-rolling, or just flat calling in order to push him off if the board pairs? At first I thought a Brunson would be the best, but then I realised that if I assume I get him to fold when it pairs I also won't get paid when I hit a flush (or possibly higher straight). Which is the best way to go?

Get it all in with your big redraw. K and Q will also hit you a bigger straight.

The play you mention is good when there's one full pot bet or so left to bet, you have the nut straight on the turn but you're pretty sure your opponent also does. You call whatever he's raised then push on any river (as opposed to pushing all in on the turn). Actually one of the rare situations where position works in reverse (that is, you want to be first to act).
