The main reasons to raise are:

1) Value
2) In order to be able to win a big pot if you flop a hand.
3) To buy the button and take control of the hand

If you're in LP and have a decent coordinated hand you should, assuming 100bb stacks, almost always come in for a raise in order to exploit your positional advantage as much as possible.
