... and other times they sit right on your face and call you Papi.
First hand of the night, just sat down at a Party $100 PLO8 table. I see a few familiar faces, but no one that stands out as terribly fishy or sharky. I don't plan on staying too long, got a semi-promise from the wife that she'd take care of me after CSI was over.
I post my blind from the cutoff and get QQJ9s (spades). EP min raises a buck, so after 3 callers it's a buck for me to see a flop. Ok, why not?
Flop comes KQ9 rainbow. 2 guys check, then MP2 bets $9 (almost the pot). Hard to tell what that means, so I raise it to $25 to get an idea where I'm at. If he comes over the top of me I'll fold it. Everyone folds to him, he just flat calls. Hmm.... Does he have the str8 with no redraws, or a set of 9s? I gotta figure a set of Kings would pop it again.
Turn is a 10, putting 2 spades out. Ok, I have the 2nd nut str8 and a gutshot str8 flush draw, plus a set that may be able to improve. I ain't going anywhere now. He checks. So now I have to try and figure out what he thinks I have and whether or not he'll check raise me if I lead out small. I figure if he has the broadway but put me on a set he'd have bet out here, so I bet another $30. If he does have a set of 9s then he's only drawing to one out, if he already has the broadway then I'm drawing to some boat outs, plus my flush outs might be good. He calls.
River is an offsuit A. Well, at this point I figure it's a split pot but bet my last $35 or whatever just in case. He calls and I see the entire pot coming my way. WTF?
He had KKxx so he flopped top set but had no redraws, yet called down anyway with 4 to a str8 on that board. Little did he know he had hardly any boat outs, hehe.
Well, the wife fell asleep, but I ended the session up $280, plus another $30 on a $25 table. Looks like I'll be in good shape for my upcoming Vegas trip.
