In position, I think this is a must call, and a raise from a small stacked bb is almost better for me - if I hit there will be more dead money in the pot to get a big piece of my stack in on.

Ok, I really can't ask for a much better flop (well, I could, but this one is pretty good for me). I have a 13 out nut str8 draw and bottom pair (which shouldn't be discounted, if someone has AA and bricks I can take this by hitting one of 9 outs for 2 pr). The board is rainbow and you could even throw in the backdoor flush draw for shits and giggles. I originally thought about flatcalling the flop but figured there's a small chance I can get the SB to fold if he was just trying to steal. He calls, however.

At first I was not happy to see this, since I had to assume somebody had AA. However......

I think this hand is a tough one. I think you made a couple of "mistakes" however they weren't major and I think that I would have made them too.

Pre-flop
I probably fold to the raise. I am going to be in the minority but I don’t like high only hands for a raise (unless they are massive, or I am the one doing the raising). My question for you is what does it take for you to continue? Will you call a pot bet with an OESD? Top two?

I think the call may be slightly +EV in the very long run but it will also be high variance and I now have a healthy respect for how –EV variance can be. The call is high variance not because of the call itself but, because on the flop it is going to put you in tough positions in large pots.

Flop
This really sucks. Unless dipshit is a total donk you have to put him on the made str8 beacuse he didn’t raise pre-flop and he lead into a very large field on a scary board. Now the PFR decides to get involved. This could be a donk overplaying AA but that would be a seriously donky move, it could be a set looking to fill up, it could be the made str8 (unlikely) and it could be the same high wrap that you have. In all cases I think you are done for.

With a scary board and two opponents who like their hands (unless they are total donks), I don’t think you can be a significant equity favorite.

That being said, in the heat of battle I don’t think I could lay this down either. However, after this discussion I may be able to so thanks for posting this hand.

i find these hands to be tricky. dipshit didn't raise pf, so you can't really say it's an AA bet on the flop. as such, he probably has a set, made str8, or the same draw.

but when seat 10 pushes all-in, too, you've got to be worried. first, even if you don't assume that either of them have a made hand, you've got to assume that several of your outs are in the villains' collective hands. this is, in fact, what ended up happening.

if there was just one villain, i would be more inclined to gamboool, but against two people who like their hands with no low draw... yuck.

fwiw, i've really been giving a lot of thought to playing three-way hands lately. i've found that if two people REALLY like their hands, i need a TON of outs before i continue because a lot of them probably aren't clean or all the redraws are covered. i rarely regret folding in situations like this. i usually find that calling or pushing was more or less ev neutral when i run the numbers.

i'll avoid the variance, thank you very much.


there are exceptions if donks are one of the two pushing, but that's really a different topic.
