There's a new fish in PLO8

Postby Stoneburg » Tue Jul 11, 2006 1:37 pm

And it's me!

Played this fabulous game for about an hour today. I have some experience from PLO and LO8 but read up on the "winning online" strategy game last night in preparation. I immediatly won a hand and then donked off a huge part of my stack on a stupid bluff. After that I tried to play a bit better. Would appreciate feedback on my hands.

First the Donk hand:

#1 - Welcome to PLO8, please donk off your stack
Party Poker
Pot Limit Omaha Ring game
Blinds: $0.10/$0.25
9 players

Stack sizes:
UTG: $4.45
UTG+1: $11.04
MP1: $28.02
MP2: $8.90
Hero: $28.48
CO: $20.85
Button: $54.10
SB: $14.26
BB: $26.03

Pre-flop: (9 players) Hero is MP3 with [3s] [2d] [6d] [Ah]
UTG calls, 2 folds, MP2 calls, Hero calls $0.25 (pot was $0.85), 2 folds, SB raises to $1.4, 3 folds, Hero calls $1.25 (pot was $2.3).

Flop: [6c] [Jc] [5d] ($3.55, 2 players)
SB bets $3.6, Hero raises to $14.4, SB calls all-in $9.26.
Uncalled bets: $1.54 returned to Hero.

Turn: [Jh] ($29.27, 1 player + 1 all-in - Main pot: $29.27)

River: [9s] ($29.27, 1 player + 1 all-in - Main pot: $29.27)

Results:
Final pot: $29.27
Hero shows 3s 2d 6d Ah
SB shows Tc Ac 2s As

Guy who re-raised me was short and seemed donkish, obviously not as donkish as me though. I figured that with my nut low draw + counterfeit protection and one pair I could bluff him out. Yeah... I don't think that's gonna happen, epsecially not when he has a real hand. I can't fold A236 preflop can I? Sure it doesn't have much high potential but the 6 will be awesome if I hit a wheel and HU my diamond draw is probably live. How should I have played it?

#2 - Free ride brings vulnerable nuts on turn with low out
Party Poker

Button: $20.85
SB: $54.35

River: [8d] ($5.85, 3 players)

Results:
Final pot: $22.65
Hero shows Jh 4s 7s 9c
MP1 shows 7c Ah Qh 5d
MP2 shows 9s 3h Js As

Obviously not much to change post flop or on the flop. Do I fold the turn? I'm obviously hoping for an overcaller with a low but if he's drawing to a better hand, do I have equity? I thought the bettor had the nut low and that someone would call with a worse low. On the river I figure that when they check it my high must be good so if I can either get them both to fold or both to call I'll be making money.

#3 - Worst preflop call in history? KK with no low.
Party Poker
Pot Limit Omaha Ring game
Blinds: $0.10/$0.25
10 players

Stack sizes:
UTG: $42.04
UTG+1: $97.02
UTG+2: $35.56
MP1: $11.83
MP2: $25.80
MP3: $49.72
CO: $51.77
Button: $4.65
Hero: $24.50
BB: $27.90

Pre-flop: (10 players) Hero is SB with [Kc] [4c] [Kd] [4d]
UTG calls, 3 folds, MP2 raises to $0.5, 3 folds, Hero calls $0.4 (pot was $1.1), BB raises to $2, UTG folds, MP2 calls, Hero calls $1.75 (pot was $4.75).

Flop: [7d] [3h] [Kh] ($6.25, 3 players)
Hero checks, BB bets $6.65, MP2 calls, Hero raises all-in $22.25, BB calls all-in $19.25, MP2 calls all-in $16.9.
Uncalled bets: $2.35 returned to BB.

Turn: [5s] ($75.6, 0 player + 3 all-in - Main pot: $73, Sidepot 1: $2.6)

River: [Qs] ($75.6, 0 player + 3 all-in - Main pot: $73, Sidepot 1: $2.6)

Results:
Final pot: $75.6
BB shows 6h 9d Ac Ah
MP2 shows 4h Ad 7s 5h
Hero shows Kc 4c Kd 4d

Oh boy oh boy... I'm guessing the preflop call isn't too pretty? Well the re-raisor was way over aggressive and was CB-ing flops so I figured I'd get paid off handsomely. I don't like the flop all that much, but when his bet is overcalled I figure I have equity enough in a 3-way pot. How do I play it there isn't an overcaller? I still push it in? Worst case he has a low draw + flush draw and I should have 50%, right?

#4 - Deuces are good
Party Poker
Pot Limit Omaha Ring game
Blinds: $0.10/$0.25
8 players

Stack sizes:
UTG: $54.85
UTG+1: $25
MP1: $25.33
UTG: $42.04
UTG+1: $97.02
MP2: $25.35
CO: $29.37
Button: $19.33
Hero: $25.40
BB: $24.20

Pre-flop: (8 players) Hero is SB with [2h] [Ac] [2d] [9c]
UTG calls, UTG+1 (poster) checks, 3 folds, Button calls, Hero calls $0.15 (pot was $0.85), BB (poster) checks.

Flop: [3c] [7c] [4d] ($1.25, 5 players)
Hero bets $1.2, 3 folds, Button calls.

Turn: [6s] ($3.65, 2 players)
Hero bets $3.5, Button calls.

River: [7s] ($10.65, 2 players)
Hero bets $10.15, Button calls.

Results:
Final pot: $30.95
Hero shows 2h Ac 2d 9c
Button shows Qd Ah 2s 9s

Did I get way out of line here? I was obviously trying to get him off his hand all the way, in the end I'm happy he called since my pair of 2's is good for high but... way too aggressive, right?

#5 - I aint folding this baby
Party Poker
Pot Limit Omaha Ring game
Blinds: $0.10/$0.25

Stack sizes:
UTG: $24.85

Flop: [3d] [3h] [8s] ($195.14, 1 player + 1 all-in - Main pot: $195.14)

Turn: [Qh] ($195.14, 1 player + 1 all-in - Main pot: $195.14)

River: [Kc] ($195.14, 1 player + 1 all-in - Main pot: $195.14)

Results:
Final pot: $195.14
Hero shows 3s As 2d 9d
UTG+1 doesn't show Ah 4c Jc Ad

Somehow the converter got bet sizes wrong. He's shortstacked with only $14.75, otherwise I would have taken a flop. Is it right to push here? There is absolutely no way in hell I am ever folding this hand preflop unless he shows me AA23ds, is that correct thinking?

I think I like betting the crap out of the pots in this game. I'm a bit cautious in Hold'em, more daring in PLO but it feels like this game just brought out the beast in me... my aggression numbers are 5 on the flop, 3.3 on the turn and 4 on the river, and that's with a couple of loose calls thrown in.

Surely in that case it's best to see a flop and push any three cards? At least then you might have a bit of fold equity against someone holding aces.

hand 1

standard... esp versus a ss.

hand 2

the turn is fine. you should be worried if there is a raise (esp. if someone calls). on the river, since it's a 3-way pot, i like your river bet as you very well may be chopping up two lows. fwiw, at higher limits you'll probably see more aggression on this river if the nut low has any kind of high (thereby possibly promoting his high over a hand like yours). i'm not really sure what mp1 was doing in the hand, but who cares.

hand 3

hhhmmm... loose call pf imo. if you had ANY kind of low with it, then it might be ok (maybe... depends on if you have low chasers in the hand). you're looking for a set (he basically announced AAxx), but there's a good chance that your set will only take half the pot. as such, you need to be a lot deeper or have a lot of people in the pot (this creates its own problems).

fwiw, you have 45% equity versus a nut low draw and a flush draw (at least if it's HU). you probably have a little bit less in this pot due to runner-runner draws that might beat you. anyway, i think jamming the flop is fine.

why don't you run some twodimes numbers?

hand 4

i think you need a read on your opponent to figure out how to play this best. i'd CR if i thought villain would bet on any given street with anything other than the nut low.

as it is, it seems pretty obvious that he's on a poorly played low. villain should have folded on the turn when he didn't make a pair, and maybe even the flop since he had no high and no counterfeit protection. playing for half the pot in a HU pot is just stupid.

A22x is great against donkeys like this, but it is very vulnerable against better players since they usually won't continue unless they have your dueces beaten or a decent draw to a high.

hand 5

discussed above.

i recommend you start adding some twodimes numbers to your HHs... i think you'll find them enlightening.
