Was This A Good Play?

Postby pokerzen » Mon Mar 05, 2007 2:17 am

I have no idea whether this was a great play or not ... something told me to pop it like I did pre-flop ... and I prefer to think that there was an intuitive reason to do so ... not just random betting. I didn't pot it pf ... just made it a juicier multiway with incentive to stay in ... (which I could get away from instantly if the flop didn't hit) ... all comments and thoughts are welcome. It paid off nicely so that's goot.

Looks like I was a pretty big dog actually after the flop. Winning/Chopping only 42% of the time. Looks like I got lucky here. And lost some Sklansky bucks that I'd earned earlier.

I think I'd have played this a lot differently if I'd know that there was going to be a raise in front and behind me on the flop. However ... given the size of the raises ... I think I was correct to call both. I guess the big question is should I have popped it preflop like that?

Okay I tried to go back to bed ... but this hand is bugging the sh** out of me ... had to come back to it and figure stuff out. I think the C-Bet was a HUGE error being OOP. Thoughts?

The other thing though ... even though I wuz a dog on the stats ... I think in pot equity since there were 2 oppos ... I was actually ahead. Check my math? I'm absolutely certain that my calls were correct after the raising on the flop even if my C-Bet was out of line. So with that being said ... final pot = $68.78

PZ wins 29.13% = $20.04 pot equity
PZ chops 12.91% = $8.88

Total pot equity = $28.92 ... of which I threw in $21.80 ... so there's a $7.12 profit per hand in this situation in the long run.

Maybe I'm figuring this out backwards ... maybe I'm trying to justify a bad play ... maybe I'm overanalyzing a situation that I had exactly 20 seconds to consider at the time ... I'm really just not sure. I'm going to need to run the same hand on twodimes again ... this time I'll throw in a set for the guy who was drawing dead and see how it works out.

God I hate poker thinky math sometimes. *lol* ... but at least I'll know what to do next time.

Probably should just call preflop but I wouldn't lose too much sleep over it - it's a hand that plays well multi-way and it was only a small portion of your stack. If u were double-suited I'd probably like it more.

On flop bet is kind of marginal with that flush draw out - with this many guys in (and at a level where peeps'll play non-nut draws) you'll get action somewhere from a flush draw, which is always going to be favourite here. Indeed, check out Ais's latest posts for info on straight draw + TP against various flush draw hands. I'd probably check and call a bet on the flop. With fewer players, betting out is much more attractive.
