Xaston vs. MonkMan

Postby Xaston » Sat Jul 30, 2005 11:27 am

Loose poor playing idiot vs. Solid strong player
Student vs. Teacher
USA vs. England
Soccer vs. Football

So I'm sitting at a $200 PLO table on stars doing real well, up to about $650 when I see the text "Nice stack Xaston." BTP's very own FeloniousMonk sat down and wouldn't you know it, 50 hands later I had $180 and he had $415

I came up with the genius idea of playing a $400 pot against the best player at the table :D

I flopped the nut flush draw and he flopped top set and we shoved a whole bunch of money in the pot and he came out on top.

I was also able to get it all in with AA vs. KK after a flop of QT3 and lost that $378 pot (this was to some Donkey, not Monk). I played another real big pot with some clown where we both flopped trip 4s but he was able to hit a kicker after we went all in while I was not!

Now you may be asking yourselves, "Xaston what is the point of this post" and the answer is simple, I'm not sure. I just thought I would chronicle this experience and share it with all of you.

Next installment will be NL ring vs. Iceman and Kenny G and Shorthanded limit vs. Mecos. I'm going to go bang my head against a wall now

Lol good work :) you finished with a nice stack.

After you left I managed to pick up a nice pot (that, in all honesty, I'm not convinced I played very well!)... One guy raised it up preflop, flop came A high with a 13-card wrap to me... I lead out, he decided to minimum raise his AA. Smart. The turn gave me the straight, I decided against getting cute and just shoved the last 200 in, and picked up the $650 pot. Finished up with $700 :); which I think is about what you won on that 2567 pot?

Your hyper-LAG strategy may work nicely at Stars, it's pretty loose-passive there but there's plenty who know how to fold a hand. You were up and down like a yo-yo though!

I also broke the habit of a lifetime after you left - flopped nut flush on Party 200 game, check-raised the flop, bet all in on the turn, and, astonishingly, the board DIDN'T pair to help my oppponent's set of jacks!!!! At PARTY!!!!

Fun times anyhow :D I've checked out the WCOOP schedule and reckon i'll play the $215 rebuy PLO event and play some satellites for the $530 freezeout PLO. Might put the money up if I have a good month in August, and as it's the WCOOP. You playing in any events? We could get a BTP crew together and destroy the opposition :D
